The house is centrally located in the village, just below Skeldale House, the surgery of the vet, James Herriot, in the well-known TV series "All Creatures Great and Small". It is so named because it was originally built in 1756 by the local apothecary, Dr. James Lightfoot, though it was re-modelled around 1850 in a Georgian style.

As a bed and breakfast, we are particularly noted for the quality and variety of our breakfasts which use locally-sourced products wherever possible. (Though we have to admit, the pineapples don't come from Yorkshire!)

All of our bedrooms are en-suite and have colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities, clock radios, shaver points, hair dryers and wireless broadband. An iron, ironing board, or trouser press are also available on request. Guests have the use of a large TV lounge on the ground floor with log fires in the winter. We have ample private parking and a lock-up garage for the use of cyclists.
